Submission on the Consumer Guarantees (Right to Repair) Amendment Bill
Our current unsustainable ‘make, take, waste’ economy
Currently, our economy is obtaining and using materials in a way that undermines our collective wellbeing, and the ability of future generations to live in a stable climate with a flourishing natural environment.
We can redesign our economy
In this submission, we highlight how our current linear economy is a product of design and can be redesigned to be more circular and regenerative.
We can have an economy where all resources are valued and waste is minimised close to zero by mimicking nature.
A better product repair system is part of a circular and regenerative economy
Making repairing products easier for New Zealanders and encouraging manufacturers and suppliers to include repairability in the design in the first place is a key plank in better utilising the precious materials we have taken from the earth.
WEAll Aotearoa recommends the Select Committee support this bill.
With a few specific changes to the draft bill, we strongly support Right to Repair Legislation in Aotearoa.
